Slab track project planning
Until 2036 Zürich Stadelhofen station will be extended with a fourth track and a second tube to the tunnel towards Zurich Tiefenbrunnen and the right bank of Lake Zürich. These construction projects are the basis for an expansion of Switzerland's largest S-Bahn network with the Expansion Step 2035. SBB is realising them with as few restrictions as possible on railway operations. Currently, around 500 trains per day pass through Stadelhofen station.
RUBI Bahntechnik is responsible the project planning for the track (SIA phase 31). The new tracks consist of a slab track of the "Low Vibration Track" type and come to rest in sections on heavy mass-spring systems. The transitions between new and existing tracks, which consist of either a ballasted track or STEDEF type slab track, will be particularly challenging.
